“Curiosity and a passion for the juxtaposition of color drive my work. The impulse to experiment with layers of color, shape, and their intersection informs the direction of my art. I love the adventure of never quite knowing where the paint will take me in any given moment. Process over outcome is what fuels my creativity. The mesmerizing visual dance between overlapping shapes and their relationship to negative space that emerges in a composition feeds my heart and soul. The application of layers upon layers of thick impasto paint or layers of translucent colors bring me absolute joy. I embrace the unpredictability of pouring methods and work intuitively to coax paint around the canvas until a visual movement and dialogue between shape and color occur within the composition. During the layering process sometimes very intentional marks are added using a variety of media. At times the layers of paint call me to excavate what is hidden and unseen. Using palette knives, large putty tools, towels, and my fingers; I scrape paint away to uncover what is beneath. This reveal along with the way shape and color emerge inform the flow of my composition. I invite the energy of the present moment, the here and now to nurture and shape my work. Mother Nature is my greatest influence and elements such as the ocean, lush gardens, beaches, tropical foliage, and the sky inspire my art.”
